What is a home EV charger?

A home EV charger is a dedicated charging unit installed at your property that allows you to charge your electric vehicle safely and much faster than using a standard three-pin plug. Most UK home chargers provide up to 7.4kW of charging power, making overnight charging convenient and cost-effective.

Do I need a special charger to charge my electric car at home?

While many electric vehicles can be charged using a standard household socket, a dedicated home EV charger is recommended. It charges significantly faster, is designed for regular use, and includes important safety features that a standard socket cannot provide.

Can I install an EV charger at home?

Most homeowners with off-street parking can install a home EV charger. If you own or rent a property with a driveway or garage, a qualified installer can assess your electrical supply and recommend the best charging solution. How much does it cost to install a home EV charger?

Can I charge any electric vehicle with a home charger?

Most modern home EV chargers, including the Alpha7, are compatible with all major electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles using the standard Type 2 connector, which is now the UK standard.

Is it cheaper to charge an electric car at home?

Can I charge my EV overnight?

Can I control my EV charger from my phone?

Yes, the Alpha7 is compatible with our FastAmps app. You can schedule charging, monitor energy usage, and receive charging notifications. Our app gives you the ability to control your charger from your finger tips.

Will a home EV charger increase my electricity bill?

Charging your vehicle will increase your electricity usage, but the cost is often significantly lower than paying for petrol or diesel. Smart charging during off-peak hours can help reduce costs even further.

How do I choose the best home EV charger?

Can I Install My own Alpha7?

We would very strongly recommend against this unless you are a professional electrician with a current qualification for the 18th edition wiring regulations: BS EN7671: as well as specific training, certification, and experience in EV charger installation.  We recommend that you speak to a qualified and experienced local installer to arrange this work.  FastAmps do not arrange installations but we can recommend an installer: please contact us if you would like more information.
